WP5: Reference laboratories
Work Package 5 Overview
This work package involves the regional HAT reference laboratories. Centre International de Recherche-Développement sur l’Elevage en zone Subhumide (CIRDES) in Burkina Faso and Institut National de Recherche Biomédicale (INRB) (1 PhD) in DR Congo will perform serological and molecular reference tests on specimens collected within WP2, WP3 and WP4 from respectively West- and Central Africa, where logistic constraints prohibit carrying out these reference tests in health centres. Test results generated within WP5 are communicated to the partners involved in WP2, WP3 and WP4, allowing them to intervene appropriately. This intervention will mainly consist of retrieving any participant that was found positive in a reference test and carrying out microscopic examination to confirm or infirm actual infection (WP2, WP3).
Relationships with other WPs: Specimens collected in WP2, WP3 and WP4 are received and test results are returned to these work packages. Test results will be included in algorithm development, falling under WP7.
